Shade house or Lath house

SHADE HOUSE/ LATH HOUSE

It is very useful for protecting the young seedlings or rooted cuttings from the external high temperature and light intensity.

Lath house is mostly used for hardening the seedlings before transplanting in the main field. It acts as an intermediate step between the greenhouse, hotbeds or cold frame and the field planting.
Sometimes propagation beds are prepared in shade house are used for propagation of plants, which are tender, less exacting in their requirement of temperature, light and humidity.
Construction of shade house and its size varies widely according to the need of the propagator. Various shading materials may be used thus allowing different intensities of light into the shade house. Since the transpiration and soil evaporation are appreciably reduced due to low temperature and low light intensity, less watering is required under shade house.
