GREENHOUSE

A controlled atmospheric house mostly made up of glass, resembling just like the Earth’s atmosphere is known as greenhouse or glass house. It entraps the heat from solar radiation and warms up the environment inside which helps the proper plant growth.

Modern greenhouses are equipped with elaborate structures, for precise control of the day and night temperatures, providing the required light intensity and length of light period and controlling humidity (Relative humidity) inside the greenhouse. There are many types of greenhouse and the size of the greenhouse varies considerably according to the requirements of plant propagator.
As glass is expensive nowadays plastic films of different types are used for the construction of the greenhouse. Sometimes fibre glass sheets are also used. They may vary from plastic polythene of 0.10 to 0.15 mm in thickness and resistance to ultraviolet (UV) rays is found most suitable for the greenhouse. Fibre glass sheets are more durable than glass and plastic polythene materials. Two types of beds are used for growing plants in greenhouse i.e. raised bed or bench type and ground bed.
